This is a series of undivided back cards with a small photograph enclosed within various shapes, surrounded by a floral and scrollwork design. It is an Australia-wide series, of which ten are Tasmanian views.

There are some variable elements in the design:

• There are six different picture shapes, called jigsaw, circle, shield, oval, lozenge and octagonal. (See the card pictures for examples). Each picture shape has its own fixed floral and scrollwork design.
  
• There are two colour style; one version has the picture with a reddish tinge and the caption in red. The other  style has an untinted black and white picture with the caption in black.
• There are six different back types, called here Type 0 up to Type 5, as shown below. The back types appear to have been issued at different times, but over a narrow interval in 1898 and 1899.

Date Published: Late 1898 or early 1899.  The earliest postmark date for the Type 3 cards is 4 February, 1899; Type 0, Type 1 and Type 2 cards were probably earlier than the Type 3 cards.

Printing: A newspaper report in 1899 gave the designer as W. Attkins, who was a partner in the Melbourne printing firm Osboldstone and Attkins, so they were probably the printers. There were apparently two printings; examples of the Cora Lynn Bridge card have been seen, with the caption in different fonts and the picture positioned differently in the frame.

Number in Series There have been 71 cards seen (see list below), but there are probably a few more. Among the 69 are 10 Tasmanian cards.

Identification: The cards have ROBERT JOLLEY MELBOURNE on the front bottom left.

Series Contents: The following table lists all the cards I know of.  I think there are two South Australian cards missing and perhaps several of Type 0.
