This is called the Framed Series because images are in a rectangular, oval or circular frame. As with the previous series “10. 1914 Collotype Series”, these cards are printed in collotype from negatives in the 300,000 range. In fact, there is nothing to separate this series from the previous one, apart from the pictures being framed.
Series Contents: The number of cards in the series is not known.
Date Published: The earliest postmark date I have seen is 22 Dec 1911.
Printing: The cards were printed by collotype, in Great Britain.
Identification: The imprint on the back left margin is “The Valentine & Sons’ Publishing Co., Ltd., Melbourne” or “The Valentine & Sons’ Publishing Co., Ltd., Melbourne”. Why some are Melbourne and some are Sydney is not clear; perhaps there were two printings. Some cards have photo numbers of 6 digits starting with 300 on the front, but others have no number at all, probably because of cropping for the frame.
