Postcard, Tasmania, [No caption. Portrait of boy]

Photographer: P.M. Koonin, 1910-1912

Publisher: P.M. Koonin, 1910-1912

Usage:  This is an unusual case of a photograph taken by a street photographer actually being posted - most street photographs are just retained, even though they are printed on postcard-back paper.

The message on the back says:

"I expect you will know this little boy it was taken  last Wed. on the road home, hasn't he grown fat. But we don't think it is a very good photo.  Much love E.M."

The card has been posted with a 1d Mt Wellington stamp, part removed. Part of the postmark remains,  "....TREE",  which was probably Ferntree.

The card shows "P.M. Koonin Photo" on the front, and on the back there is a stamp imprint "P.M. KOONIN Tourist Photo'r Hobart".

P.M. Koonin photographs usually show tour groups in a carriage.  This one is unusual, and one wonders about the circomstances. Was the boy part of a tour group, or an incidental subject?  It has been suggested that Koonin photographed his tour groups on the lower slopes of Mt. Wellington, around Fern Tree.  Was this a boy who lived around there, and incidentally photographed?
