Ownership: Beechey collection. 

Subject: The photo shows the ship Melbourne Star passing through the Hobart Bridge on 13 April, 1949. The Melbourne Star, the second ship of that name, was built in Belfast in 1948 for the Blue Star Line, as a refrigerated cargo liner. She was  of 13,500 tons and 550 ft (168 m) in length. The Mercury reported that, at the time, she was the largest ship to go through the bridge, which had opened in 1943.
