Postcard, "Government Buildings, Hobart, Tasmania"

Publisher: E.T.W. Dennis, Scarborough, UK, about 1905

Photographer: Unknown.

Manufacture: Sky printed by lithography, rest printed by letterpress halftone. Probably printed at the E.T.W. Dennis plant in Scarborborough.

Usage: Posted with 1d stamp at Hobart; postmarked 5 September 1911. The message says "it was from the steps in front of the highest building that the King was proclaimed". Presumably this was King George V, who took the throne in 1910. Tasmania had been a British colony until the Commonwealth of Australia was formed in 1910, but remained staunchly British in orientation for much of the next century.
