Robert Jolley was a Melbourne publisher and importer who was probably the first postcard publisher in Australia.  Between 1899, possibly 1898, up to 1906 he published many series of cards on Australian themes. Initially his cards featured elaborate scrollwork designs, but his later output became standard pictorial views.  He was born in Tasmania and often returned there, perhaps explaining why his output included a high proportion of Tasmanian subjects.
